It's hot today in Japanese

今日は暑いですね

In kana only: きょうはあついですね

kyou wa atsui desu ne

polite

What it literally says

as for today, it is hot, isn't it

Japanese politeness is mostly built out of phrases that stopped being literal a long time ago. Knowing what is underneath is the difference between repeating a sound and knowing what you said.

When to use it

The ne is what makes it small talk rather than a statement. Weather is the default opener in Japan.
