Emergencies in Japanese
Nobody wants this page and everybody should read it once. The numbers are short and worth memorising: 110 for police, 119 for fire and ambulance. Ambulances are free.
The Japan Visitor Hotline runs 24 hours in English, Chinese and Korean on 050-3816-2787. For anything less than an emergency, a kouban — the small police box near most stations — handles lost property, directions and trouble, and the officers there are used to visitors who speak no Japanese.
