What time does it close? in Japanese

何時に閉まりますか

In kana only: なんじにしまりますか

nan-ji ni shimarimasu ka

polite

What it literally says

at what hour does it close

Japanese politeness is mostly built out of phrases that stopped being literal a long time ago. Knowing what is underneath is the difference between repeating a sound and knowing what you said.

When to use it

Worth asking about temples especially — most close far earlier than visitors expect, often at 4 or 5pm.
